First we travelled through what was a farming area, nestled along the base of mountains in the Swiss countryside. The paddocks were just so green and everywhere was a hub of activity, with farmers on tractors and men raking and cutting their paddocks using hand tools. We were near a town called Giswill when we hopped out to take some lovely photos. What really amazed us was how many houses were dotted along the hillside, in places that just seemed so random. There must be small roads that lead up there.
We then travelled on and up in the mountains, and we got to this spot, where when we turned around a bend saw the most amazing sight I reckon I have ever seen. Lake Lungern. My pictures do not capture the colours of this place- The water was clear aqua, the countryside was a rich green, and the sky so blue. To top this off, mountains surround this beautiful place, some of which are still peaked with snow. What a fabulous lake with a small touristy village on one end. We stopped for a few pics then drove up the hill for better views, looking down the valley to the lake. If anywhere is the best place for a postcard picture, Lake Lungern is it.
We continued on and arrived at Wilderswil just as Nev and Beth were returning from a day out. Our hotel, the Luna had great views up to the mountains and was also close to a station where trains could take you up to a village in the mountains. We opted to drive up, with Darke taking a very full car to the village of Grindelwald. It was buzzing with activity as many people who had been out hiking for the day were returning. From here, you can get a cable car or train pretty much anywhere in this mountain area. Beth, Ret and I hit the tourist shops and I bought a few souvenirs, while the men found a bar to get started at. After us ladies joined them for a few, we then went back to town and got dinner at a cosy little pub just up the road from our hotel. The meals were huge and so delicious. I enjoyed a massive rosti, a Swiss dish of fried chopped potato and onion.
